Driving change is hard. North American food production has been based on efficiency and yields. It's time to rethink how your food is raised. You're probably paying more for the G.A.P. Animal Welfare Certified label on your favorite meat products, but that's because the producers are doing more. They're doing right by the animals - giving them more space to move around, constant access to food and water, added enrichments to allow them to be animals, proper indoor air quality, and outdoor access when the weather allows. Our tiered standards are based in science with the animals needs and wants at the center. When you vote with your wallet and raise your expectations around food production, you help us change the industry. There truly are no shortcuts to any place worth going. Help us make an impact. #MakeitGAP

It's #NationalMilkDay! Did you know G.A.P. recently developed and published animal welfare standards for Dairy Cattle? Our science-based, comprehensive standards are the most meaningful in the industry. We're working with our first group of dairy farms toward G.A.P. Certification, which is scheduled to be completed in the next few months. Yep, you guessed it. Reggie the Cowboy Elf is still at it. Today it's time to help get the corn to the grain elevator. Always lots to do on the farm! Most of the other elves are back at the North Pole, but not Reggie. He'll stick around until all of the work is done. Lots of time for hot cocoa and reindeer games later.

Are you inside feeling cozy and warm, cuddled up on your couch? While many of us enjoy a slower week in between Christmas and New Year's, Reggie the Elf is still hard at work. This afternoon, he's busy checking on his pasture raised cattle - making sure they still have plenty of grass to graze even with snow on the ground.

All of our G.A.P. Certified partners keep their animals warm, fed, and safe through the harsh winter months. Did you know G.A.P. certification requires enrichments for chickens at ALL steps? Chickens should be able to interact with their environment in a meaningful way through enrichments like hay bales for climbing and pecking, and perches for flying and perching. Allowing birds to play and move around freely adds to their physical health and reduces stress.

Learn more about G.A.P.'s chicken standards and our Better Chicken Project, an initiative created to help change the broiler chicken industry for good: https://globalanimalpartnership.org/better-chicken-project/.

Look for the G.A.P. label when you shop for chicken this holiday season and taste the difference. #MakeitGAP
...

Did you know that G.A.P. Certified gestating (pregnant) sows must have a specified amount of bedding (usually hay) and materials (cloth, blankets, etc.) to build their nests? They can also NEVER be confined to farrowing or gestation crates (metal crates in which the animal can only stand up or lay down, not turn around). Proposition 12 (a law recently passed in California) requires minimum amounts of space for pregnant sows and their piglets, which G.A.P. standards meet or exceed. So, the bottom line is... always look for the G.A.P. Animal Welfare Certified when you shop for pork and other meats (and pet food too!) Happy holidays everyone!
