creating global partnerships to continually improve the lives of farm animals

About Global Animal Partnership

Global Animal Partnership was borne from several years of collaborative effort amongst sustainable agriculture experts, animal welfare nonprofit executives, farmers from across the country, internationally recognized animal behavior and welfare scientists, auditors, and leadership from Whole Foods Market. Whole Foods led a multi-year, multi-stakeholder council including representatives from these varied sectors to help create its own comprehensive standards for many species raised for food. After investing substantially, both in terms of effort and finances, Whole Foods realized the incredible potential for this program to improve the living conditions of animals in agriculture and the viability of sustainable farming, and willingly elected to share it beyond its own corporation.

As a result, a new, truly innovative, multi-stakeholder, nonprofit organization—Global Animal Partnership—was created.

Embracing the multi-stakeholder approach to promoting and achieving higher welfare for farm animals, our board of directors is currently comprised of representatives from diverse sectors concerned about animal agriculture: farmers, nonprofit animal advocacy organizations, food retail, and animal science. We are committed to working together, finding common ground and developing effective strategies to promote continuous improvement in the way farm animals are raised.
